Maximum equality and tension in the fight for the win in the 50th Rally Islas Canarias – Rally of Spain. Sébastien Ogier / Vincent Landais and Oliver Solberg / Elliott Edmondson will tackle the final two stages separated by a mere 2.2 seconds.
The young Swedish driver was fastest in the first two stages of the day: ‘Ingenio – Valsequillo’ (SS15) and ‘Santa Lucía – Agüimes’ (SS16), and managed to cut the nine-time world champion’s lead by 1.6 seconds. These minimal differences highlight the spectacular duel between the two on the Canary Island stages.
The rest of the overall rally standings remain largely unchanged. Elfyn Evans / Scott Martin are firmly in third place, 21.8 seconds behind the leader, followed more than a minute behind by their teammates Sami Pajari / Marko Salminen and Takamoto Katsuta / Aaron Johnston, in fourth and fifth respectively.
The Hyundai Shell Mobis WRT crews remain in sixth, seventh, and eighth places. The only change in position this morning saw Thierry Neuville / Martijn Wydaeghe overtake the Spanish duo of Dani Sordo / Cándido Carrera, who also suffered a slow puncture on SS16.
After the first section of the day, the participating teams are now regrouping in the town of Vecindario before tackling the two remaining stages this morning. The second run through ‘Ingenio – Valsequillo’ will start at 10:50, while the second run through ‘Santa Lucía – Agüimes’ will start at 13:15, with the Wolf Power Stage bringing the 50th Rally Islas Canarias – Rally of Spain to a close.
