The International Automobile Federation (FIA), the global governing body for motor sport and the federation of motoring organisations worldwide, has today announced a historic long-term commercial rights agreement for the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) and the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC). The agreement follows the acquisition of WRC Promoter GmbH by Cosmobilis and Park Square Capital.
This is the largest agreement in the history of both championships and marks a new chapter for the WRC and the ERC. In line with the FIA’s vision under the presidency of Mohammed Ben Sulayem, it will bring significant investment to the sport and help to strengthen and expand its portfolio of competitions over the coming years.
The agreement has been designed with the rally community in mind and developed to deliver real benefits for fans, competitors, event organisers and FIA member clubs. Through this agreement, rallying will become more accessible, more competitive and more commercially successful. As the sport grows, the FIA will remain focused on sound governance and regulation, which form the foundations of the discipline’s long-term success.
Together with the FIA, the new promotional team — comprising the French automotive technology and services platform Cosmobilis and private equity investor Park Square Capital — shares a commitment to growing the sport’s global audience and deepening its connection with fans. The FIA will also benefit from significantly greater brand visibility at events and in broadcasts around the world.
This is a pivotal moment for the WRC, which is preparing for a major regulatory overhaul. The new generation of technical regulations, scheduled for 2027, has been designed to make the sport safer, more competitive and more accessible at the highest level. At the same time, the creation of a new FIA fund for the development of rallying (the FIA Growth Fund) will enable support for projects that drive the growth of the sport worldwide, from the highest level of the championships right down to grassroots participation.
Cosmobilis and Park Square Capital have presented ambitious plans to take the WRC and ERC to the next level, placing fans at the heart of the sport and making rallying more appealing, accessible and engaging. Through a more compelling narrative, improved distribution and new multi-platform content, fans will be closer than ever to the action.
To realise this vision, the new promoter has put together a team of experts led by its newly appointed Chief Executive, Éric Boullier, an executive with extensive experience in top-level international motorsport.
Statements
Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the FIA, described the agreement as the most important of the century for rallying and expressed his pride in announcing a transformative step and unprecedented levels of investment. He emphasised that the deal will bring real benefits to fans, competitors and member clubs, and that it reflects confidence in the future of the sport as its global popularity grows. He also noted that the aim was to secure not only the right partner for today, but one that shares the Federation’s long-term vision, and thanked the Vice-President for Sport, Malcolm Wilson OBE, and his team for their work.
Malcolm Wilson OBE, FIA Vice-President for Sport, emphasised that, after more than forty years dedicated to the World Rally Championship, he had never seen an investment of this magnitude in the sport. He explained that the priority from the outset had been to find a partner who recognised the potential of the WRC and also understood its character, its legacy and the responsibility of shaping its future. In his view, with the introduction of the WRC27 regulations and the launch of the FIA’s development fund, a real opportunity has arisen to strengthen the championship and expand its global audience.
Jean-Louis Mosca, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cosmobilis, described the acquisition as a significant milestone in the group’s transformation, the ambition of which has been to connect the entire automotive ecosystem through technology, data and value-generating platforms. He emphasised that this is not merely a matter of acquiring the commercial rights to a world championship, but of building an international platform where manufacturers, partners, the media, technology and fans come together, with the aim of making the WRC the global benchmark for motorsport.
Martino Ghezzi, a partner at Park Square Capital, has pointed out that the WRC and the ERC are iconic championships with an exceptional legacy and global reach, and has expressed his satisfaction at providing capital and strategic support to develop their potential alongside Cosmobilis and Éric Boullier.
Éric Boullier, CEO of WRC Promoter: stated that he is taking on the challenge with enthusiasm and determination, but also with humility and a sense of responsibility, with the aim of making these championships even more attractive. He indicated that, together with the FIA and its partners, the aim is to turn every round into a major event and to consolidate the WRC and the ERC as world-class global brands, in line with today’s technological and environmental challenges.
