Miko Marczyk, the fastest driver in the qualifying stage in Guía

The Polish champion in 2019 has been able to take advantage of his Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo and will be the first one to choose the starting position for the leg tomorrow, which almost certainly will take place in the rain. Craig Breen, ‘Cohete’ Suárez and Andreas Mikkelsen finished less than one second behind.

Miko Marczyk and Szymon Gospodarczyk (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo) recorded the best time in the qualifying stage held in the early afternoon in the municipality of Santa María de Guía. The last year Polish champions adapted quite well to the cold and humid weather conditions under which this first contact with the timer of the 44 Rally Islas Canarias took place. This result will give them the right to choose the starting position for the first leg on Friday.

The world champions Craig Breen and Paul Nagle (Hyundai i20 R5) finished 752 thousandths behind the fastest drivers in this 3,45 km long leg. The fastest Spanish team was the one of José Antonio Suárez-Alberto Iglesias (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo), that was 863 thousandths away from Marczyk-Gospodarczyk. Less than 1 second behind, Andreas Mikkelsen-Anders Jaeger reached the fourth position.

Pepe López-Borja Rozada (Citroën C3 R5) and Nil Solans-Xavi Moreno (Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo), who came to this rally fighting for the Spanish Rally Super-Championship, reached the fifth and sixth position. Up to five Spanish teams finished among the top ten with Efrén Llarena-Sara Fernández (Citroën C3 R5) and the Canarian champions Enrique Cruz-Yeray Mujica (Ford Fiesta R5) ranking eight and tenth place respectively. Not having been able to heat the tires, the ERC leader Alexey Lukyanuk lagged seriously behind.

The selection of the starting positions (5:15 pm) and the previous press conference (5:45 pm) with the mass media will be taking place in the podium area. The autograph session will be virtual (from 6:00 to 7:00 pm) – on this occasion, the fans will be able to enter the Rally Islas Canarias official web site and download signed fotos of the leading drivers.

Last but not least, the kick-off will launch for real this 44 edition from the inside of the stadium of the Unión Deportiva Las Palmas at 08:30 pm.
