Nikolay Gryazin, the fastest in the Qualifying stage Featured

The Young Russian driver has surpassed his compatriot Alexey Lukyanuk  in his battle for the best time in the Qualifying Stage that was held this moring in the Ingenio-Telde stage. After them, as the first qualified Spanish, José Antonio Suárez has finished.

During the morning of Thursday, the intensely awaited qualification stage was held between the municipalities of Ingenio and Telde. In this new section, the main teams that will participate in the 42nd edition of the Rally Islas Canarias have measured their strength with the chronometer as a witnesser for the first time.

Nikolay Gryazin and Yaroslav Fedorov, on their second visit to Gran Canaria with Skoda Fabia R5, have been the most effective in the 3.43 kilometers of this stage after imposing themselves by 268 thousandths in front of the FIA ​​ERC leaders and winners of the last two editions of this test, his compatriots Alexey Lukyanuk and Alexey Arnautov (Ford Fiesta R5).

With this result, the only 21 years old Gryazin, will have preference when selecting the starting order of the first leg, which will start with the stage of 'Valsequillo-Festina' (10.96 km) and that will continue with 'San Mateo-DISA' and 'Artenara', the longest of the day with 23.05 kilometers. As in  the urban section of 'Las Palmas de Gran Canaria' (1.44 km), the teams will have to do it twice over. 

After Gryazin and Lukyanuk, José Antonio Suárez-Cándido Carrera (Hyundai i20 R5) may choose their position as third classified in the qualification and, also, as the first Spanish team. Iván Ares-José Pintor (Hyundai i20 R5) were fifth with only 2.4’’ behind the Germans Fabian Kreim-Frank Christian (Skoda Fabia R5). The first classified canaries have been Luis Monzón-José Carlos Déniz (Ford Fiesta R5), on the twelfth position.

Among the ERC2 vehicles, the Hungarian Tibor Erdi-Gyorgy Papp (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X) have been the fastest. In ERC3 and ERC Junior U27, Efrén Llarena and Sara Fernández have started to mark the territory with the best time in both categories. Up to the fastest fifteen teams will have their opportunity to choose a position. This selection will take place on the Rally Islas Canarias podium which, one more year, will be in front of the starting arch of Parque Santa Catalina.

From 17:30 hours will continue the action around that neuralgic center of the test with the press conference, the autographs signing (17:30 to 18:30) and, finally, with the starting ceremony that will fill up the Parque Santa Catalina to the brim. The arc of the beginning and the goal of the test will see each and every one of the teams that will take part in the Rally Islas Canarias, second FIA ​​ERC event, third of the CERA and first of the Asphalt Rallies Canarias Championship.
