The 48th Rally Islas Canarias is heating up. After two intense days of testing, today, Wednesday, the starting ceremony takes center stage, an opening event that will officially kick off this year's Gran Canaria rally.
After almost four decades, Mesa y López Avenue will once again be hosting the start of this FIA European Rally Championship event, the Spanish Super-Championship, and local competitions. It will take place at 9:00 p.m. in the area between Galicia Street and Plaza de España in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It will be a special moment for all fans, both the veterans and the younger ones, who will enjoy the opportunity to experience this opening moment.
On the other hand, since early in the morning, the teams have been out reconnoitering a good portion of the special stages for this weekend. Last night, they already did so on the ‘Las Palmas de Gran Canaria’ special stage, which ventures, for the second year in a row, into the Gran Canaria Arena. Today, therefore, it’s the turn of the special stages that will determine the verdict next Friday and Saturday.
Activity is also bustling around the vicinity of the Gran Canaria Stadium. Technical scrutineering has been taking place as a mandatory step before the engines start roaring on Thursday with the free practice, the qualifying stage, and the first timed special stage (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria - 1.8 km - 8:35 p.m.).
