The Rally Islas Canarias gets the green light in front of thousands of spectators

The Mesa y López Avenue hosted the starting ceremony for the second race of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC). Teams paraded through the ramp located in one of the most iconic spots in the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Tomorrow, Thursday, it will be time for the first dose of competition with the 'Qualifying Stage' of 'Santa María de Guía' and the night-time super special.

The 48th Rally Islas Canarias received the green light on José Mesa y López Avenue in front of thousands of spectators. This central point of the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria once again hosted one of the most important events of the week, marking the official start of the second race of the FIA European Rally Championship (ERC). Tomorrow, hostilities will begin with the 'Qualifying Stage' and the capital's super special.

Wednesday's agenda included several key activities for the competition's development. From 7:00 a.m., the participants started reconnaissance runs on the roads of Gran Canaria. Note-taking in the notebooks became the main focus in the mountain areas, while at the event headquarters, located at the Gran Canaria Stadium, preliminary technical scrutineerings were taking place.

The most anticipated moment of the day, the starting ceremony, was held at one of the original locations of the Rally Islas Canarias. The contenders of the continental event, as well as the favourites for the titles of the Spanish Super Rally Championship (S-CER) and the Canary Islands Rally Championship on Asphalt (CCRA), paraded through the ramp with their respective vehicles and enjoyed a unique atmosphere with the fans.

The vehicles will sleep in the service park on the eve of the action's kick-off. This Thursday, in the municipality of 'Santa María de Guía', the Free Practice and the 'Qualifying Stage' will take place for participants with ERC1 priority in the ERC. This final session will define the starting order for Friday’s agenda.

In the afternoon, the super special of 'Las Palmas de Gran Canaria' will be the center of attention. The Gran Canaria Arena will showcase its best with the 8000 fans and all available seats having been sold out. The first vehicle will start at 8:35 p.m. This timed stage, just like the other twelve that make up the itinerary, can be followed through the Rally.TV platform, responsible for broadcasting each ERC event live.
