The Rally Islas Canarias presents all its novelties to institutions and medias Featured

Outstanding representatives of the political and economic life of the Canary Islands gathered at the AC Hotel Gran Canaria, the setting for the presentation of a new edition of this event. In this event, the main novelties and the renewal until 2022 of the agreement with Eurosport Events to be the headquarters of the FIA ​​European Rally Championship were announced.

Once again, the Organizing Committee of the Rally Islas Canarias has brought together prominent personalities to present a new edition on the 22nd floor of the AC Hotel Gran Canaria, very close to the Parque Santa Catalina, which in a matter of a week will be decorated to be a point of start and end of the most important rally of the year. 

Valid for the FIA ​​European Rally Championship (FIA ERC), the new Spanish Super Rally Championship (S-CER) and the Spanish Rally Championship of Asphalt (CERA), during this multitudinal act they reviewed, one by one, the many attractions that it offers to the thousands of fans that, surely, will fill the timed stages again the next 2, 3 and 4 of May.

Undoubtedly, in addition to all these developments, the great news was announced by Germán Morales, president of the Organizing Committee of this event that has just been renewed with Eurosport Events to host the next three editions of the FIA ​​ERC. “We are the only rally that has been offered to be until the year 2022 and that is what has been signed. We hope that this relationship lasts much longer”, said Morales, who thanked all the institutions, collaborating municipalities and main sponsors that have allowed the Rally Islas Canarias to grow.

Antonio Morales, president of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, said that this institution “wants to continue showing its strong support" for this event "because it is a project of importance for the sport, but also for the island”. “When we propose dreams and objectives like this one, we achieve with public and private initiative paddling together. This event is a test that civil society and public administrations, together, we can convert a rally of these characteristics worldwide reference”, said Morales, who recalled in his speech the bet that also makes the Tourist Board of the Cabildo de Gran Canaria for this event.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, Isaac Castellano, stressed that "this round places the archipelago in the center of the international map of motorsports, which once again becomes a world-class showcase of the first order". “The Rally Islas Canarias is part of our idiosyncrasy and places us as a benchmark for the values ​​that sport represents as an element of social cohesion, in addition to showing the excellence of our land and our people to the outside in a unique way”, he continued. In addition, the Regional Minister stressed that this sporting event “focuses on the Archipelago the focus of state and international media, with extensive coverage that translates into a magnificent promotion of the Canary Islands destination as a setting for holding tests first level sports”.

Augusto Hidalgo, mayor of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, said he was "proud" that the Rally Islas Canarias “begins and ends in the Parque Santa Catalina". “This city will continue to bet on this sporting event of greater international significance of the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria and the capital. Ours is a decided bet", he said before putting in value the will of the organizer to make the rally" closer to the urban centers". For the third consecutive year, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria will host the Super Special Urban Stage during the first leg. Hidalgo also applauded the initiative of the organizer to launch the Sim-Rally Islas Canarias based on the virtual section of the capital. “It is the smartest bet we could do to launch another dimension to this sport”, he said.

María Teresa Mayans, sub-delegate of the Government in Las Palmas, highlighted to what extent this rally “has made its mark in the Canarian society". "For our part, the most important thing is that it is a safe event and for that we have the collaboration of the Civil Guard and the National Police and all the bodies of the town halls. For your perfect coordination, we will soon have the meeting of the Security Board”, he explained.

The Minister of Tourism of Public Works, Infrastructure and Sports of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, Ángel Víctor Torres, stressed that the Rally Islas Canarias "is one of the fundamental events in the sports field” and recalled that the Gran Canaria European Island of Sports Project "organizes some 150 events a year, one every two days, of all of them the Rally Islas Canarias is the most relevant, which has the greatest institutional support in the sports area for objective reasons; for its sporting repercussion, for its transcendence abroad, for the support of the fans and of course because it is a gateway to what Gran Canaria means. We speak of a rally that has a splendid past, a magnificent and healthy present and a secure future. A proposal was recently approved at the Cabildo de Gran Canaria and, unanimously, it became an institutional declaration to ensure support for the event”. 

Manuel Aviñó, president of the Royal Spanish Federation of Motorsports, said when speaking of the Rally Islas Canarias that, possibly, "we are facing the most important sporting event that this country has after the Grand Prix of Formula One and the World Rally Championship" and recalled that the sport of motorsport "generates wealth by attracting quality tourism" and that this test will attract another year "to thousands of fans". Aviñó was confident that Efrén Llarena and Sara Fernández, leaders of the Junior ERC3 and components of the Rally Team Spain, can recover from the abandonment of last year and can play a great role in Gran Canaria.

Ignacio de Beruete, Director of Communication, Marketing and Development of DISA, a company that repeats as a sponsor of the Rally Islas Canarias for the seventh year, recalled that the role of this company "is to guarantee the energy supply to the Canary Islands", but "at the same time -he said- we always want to participate in the development of Canarian society through different social, cultural and sporting events. The Canary Islands have some extraordinary fans; It is very difficult to find in the rest of Spain the level of enthusiasm, loyalty and participation that we find in this rally. At DISA, security goes into our DNA, so, once again, our friend Pedro de la Rosa will again give instructions about it”, he recalled.

On Fred. Olsen & Baleària, Marina González, responsible for marketing, declared that it is "an honor to be able to collaborate with a rally of this repercussion". "The fact that in 2018 we have incorporated a new route between the Canary Islands and Huelva has allowed us an unprecedented opportunity to collaborate between the two shipping companies and this event, which is a benchmark”, he added. For his part, Jesus Dioni, head of the Commercial Cargo Department of the same company, said that "the alliance of Fred. Olsen and Balearia has started with a frequency of three weekly departures. The cars will leave for the Canary Islands on Friday 26th at 8:00 p.m. and will arrive in Gran Canaria next Sunday, the 28th at 8:00 p.m. They will disembark about 700 linear meters. I thank the entire Todo Sport team and Germán Morales, count on us”. 

From the Organizing Committee wanted to thank the implication of Colonel Ricardo Arranz, head of the Command of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas, throughout all these years. Germán Morales gave him the gold pin of the Rally Islas Canarias in this presentation.
