The 48th Rally Islas Canarias, from May 2 to 4, 2024

The FIA World Council has published today, Wednesday, November 22, the official calendar of the FIA European Rally Championship 2024. In a roadmap with eight appointments, the Gran Canaria event will be the second and at the same time the first on tarmac. It will be the ninth consecutive edition since the return to the continental calendar in 2016 and, in addition, it will be part of the FIA Junior ERC roadmap.

The FIA European Rally Championship 2024 already has a calendar. Today it was officially published by the FIA World Council. There will be eight events, including some new places, that will shape the 71st edition of the European Rally Championship.

The 48th edition of the Rally Islas Canarias will be held from May 2 to 4, this time as the second station of the season and the first on tarmac. The Gran Canaria event thus maintains its location in the early events of the calendar. After its return to the continental championship in 2016, it will be the ninth consecutive edition in this competition. In addition, the only Spanish event in the FIA ERC will also once again be part of the FIA Junior ERC, a calendar that consists of six rallies.

A few weeks before, from April 12 to 14, the championship will begin in Hungary. Here the novelty is of a double nature, since the Hungarian rally stops closing the contest to take the witness as the opening test. Furthermore, its stages will be held on gravel and not on the usual tarmac. After the visit to Gran Canaria, the gravel will once again be the protagonist from June 13 to 15 with the second consecutive presence in the FIA ERC of the Royal Rally of Scandinavia.

Gravel rallies will say goodbye with their arrival at the equator coinciding with the return of Rally Estonia, scheduled for July 5-7. From there, the second part of the year will have asphalt as the main protagonist. The Rally di Roma Capitale, from July 26 to 28, will kick off a final stretch that includes the Barum Czech Rally Zlín (August 16 to 18) and the news of the Rally Ceredigion (August 30 to September 1 ) and the Rally Silesia (October 11-13).

“We have been working on the 2024 edition for weeks and with this announcement by the FIA World Council we already have confirmation of the entire European calendar,” says Germán Morales. “We maintain our location on the calendar, something that is positive for the teams and also for the fans,” emphasizes the head of the organization. “As has happened on several occasions, the Rally Islas Canarias will be the first event of the year on tarmac, an aspect that has always fit well and has allowed us to enjoy really interesting entry lists,” the president of Todo Sport values positively.

The Rally Islas Canarias is organized by Todo Sport and promoted by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria through its Insular Institute of Sports and Tourism of Gran Canaria, the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by its Municipal Sports Institute and the department of Tourism, LPA Visit and the Government of the Canary Islands by Promotur Turismo de Canarias. Private companies collaborate, like Fred. Olsen Express & Baleària, Grupo Recalvi, Hyundai Canarias, Avis Canarias, Lopesan, Sonocom and ServiTecni.
